Child-Centered Learning
WSMS strongly supports the core Montessori principal that children teach themselves, with the teacher functioning as a guide. Our well-equipped, well-organized environment allows children to act spontaneously but purposefully. Children work quietly and intently, building concentration and self-discipline.
The Three-Year Cycle
Our classes are represented by children spanning a three-year age range (ages 3-6), and include a balanced division of ages and genders. WSMS places special emphasis on this Montessori-based social environment, because it encourages children to learn from one another through both observation and interaction. In the Montessori classroom, students have the opportunity to take on a number of roles throughout the three-year cycle: youngest, middle, and oldest (“afternooners”) – each different, complex, and integral to the classroom dynamic.
